Strategic Masterplan for the Jute Sector Revival: Volume II – Global Jute Value Chain Architecture, Cross-Border Market Dynamics, and Financial Mapping
This second volume of the jute sector revival series maps the global jute value chain from seed to retail shelf. It traces cultivation and the cross-border seed dependency, the multi-tier aggregation network of Farias, Beparis, Aratdars and Kutcha and Pucca balers, mill engineering from batching to weaving, and the institutional and commercial marketing channels. It then compares nine markets: Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, the UAE, Turkey, Iran, Syria and China. Their supply, demand, tariff and subsidy regimes are set against India's September 2026 re-quantification of anti-dumping duties and Bangladesh's 2025–26 restrictions on raw jute exports. The paper sets out a mirror-trade framework for export and import misinvoicing and identifies five corridor-level statistical discrepancies. It describes the visible and informal financial layers, from interlocked rural credit (dadon) to UAE-centred Hundi settlement, and builds a financial map of unit economics from farmgate to branded retail. It concludes that only engineering upgrading into fine, food-grade yarns and diversified products offers a durable hedge against synthetic substitution and currency volatility. Several market-size, magnitude and trade-flow estimates come from commercial or secondary sources and should be read as indicative. Volume II of the series; continues Volume I (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23546592).
