Morpho 2.0 User Manual
Morpho Design Explorer is a computational design exploration tool developed for Grasshopper within Rhinoceros 3D. It supports designer-in-the-loop, multi-objective design exploration by integrating the Non-Dominating Dynamic Population Genetic Algorithm (NDDP-GA) with tools for generating, evaluating, filtering, and visualizing design alternatives. Morpho facilitates informed decision-making during early design stages by allowing designers to explore relationships between quantitative performance criteria and qualitative design considerations. This user manual provides step-by-step instructions for installing and using the Morpho plugin. It introduces the plugin's components, explains their inputs, outputs, and functions, and illustrates how to configure and execute computational design exploration workflows. The manual covers the definition of design variables, fitness criteria, and algorithm parameters; generation and evaluation of design alternatives; and organization and storage of design data. Particular attention is given to the Morpho Visualizer, which enables designers to interactively examine generated solutions through filtering, sorting, 2D and 3D scatter plots, parallel coordinate plots, and Pareto-front analysis. These visualization capabilities support the identification of promising design alternatives, investigation of trade-offs among competing objectives, and integration of quantitative assessments with visual design characteristics. The manual is intended for architecture students, researchers, educators, and design professionals interested in computational design, parametric modeling, evolutionary optimization, and performance-informed design exploration.
