A new approach to observing intuition during crisis exercises: linguistic markers of cognitive heuristics
Organisations are using crisis exercises to train their crisis management staff. Few studies have examined intuitive decision-making during exercises, which manifests itself in the form of heuristics: cognitive shortcuts. Identifying these heuristics duringobservation of exercises is complex due to the lack of a methodology for considering heuristics during exercises. To overcome this problem, we propose a methodology for observing linguistic markers to identify heuristics during 32 crisis exercises at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission. This research has shown that our methodology provides a framework for identifying seven specific heuristics during crisis exercises. We conclude the article with the contributions of our methodology and prospects for further development.
