New biological classification of tumors based on integrative medicine and its prospective clinical application

Abstract The incidence of tumors in China has increased annually, posing a serious threat to public health. Tumors are characterized by uncontrolled growth and high invasiveness and often present various symptoms and signs. Despite the diverse and increasingly specialized treatment methods available for tumors, significant challenges remain concerning the prognosis and quality of life for patients with tumors. In clinical practice, the same treatment regimen often yields different outcomes for various types of tumors, and different treatment protocols for the same type of tumor can also lead to varying effects. These discrepancies are closely related to the inadequacy of existing tumor classifications, which do not encompass all tumor types and fail to reflect the intrinsic nature of tumors. Therefore, based on the principles of integrative medicine, Prof. Daiming Fan proposed a novel biological classification method for tumors, categorizing them into innate type, acquired type, and combined-etiology tumors. This novel classification method aims to promote a better understanding of the essence of tumor development and to provide more scientific and effective guidance for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of tumors. The new biological classification of tumors based on integrative medicine is important for revealing tumor etiology, preventing tumor occurrence, improving diagnostic accuracy, and developing effective treatment strategies. This classification can more comprehensively reflect the characteristics and intrinsic mechanisms of tumors, providing support for physicians in developing more precise treatment plans. In this article, we propose the new biological classification of tumors based on integrative medicine and discuss its prospective clinical application.

Tumors are characterized by uncontrolled growth and high invasiveness and often present various symptoms and signs. Despite the diverse and increasingly specialized treatment methods available for tumors, significant challenges remain concerning the prognosis and quality of life for patients with tumors.
