Anthraquinone‐Based o rgano ‐CAPodes for High‐Performance Iontronic Logic Circuits

Increasing energy demands of AI drive the development of alternative computing methods such as iontronics exploiting ionic transport mechanisms inspired by biological systems. Herein, we report the design and implementation of new small organic molecule‐based capacitor diodes ( organo ‐CAPodes) by hybridizing 9,10‐anthraquinone (AQ), a redox‐active organic molecule known for its reversible electrochemical behavior and well‐defined redox potential, onto a nanostructured carbon support. These AQ‐based CAPodes uniquely combine the energy storage capability of asymmetric capacitors with current rectification characteristics of semiconductor diodes, achieving a high rectification ratio II ( RR II ) of up to 96%, a rectification ratio I ( RR I ) of up to 12.8, a specific capacity of 67.3 mAh/g, and a RR II retention of 91.6%. The integration of solid‐state electrolytes (e.g., Nafion) enhances device stability and reversibility, achieving reliable operation in iontronic logic circuits such as “OR” and “AND” gates at input frequencies of 0.2 Hz. This work demonstrates the potential of purely organic redox‐active material‐based organo ‐CAPodes to bridge the gap between energy storage and logic operations, paving the way for low‐power, multifunctional iontronic systems in future.
