Ransomware-Ready DC: Immutable Backup

Ransomware-Ready DC: Immutable Backup This research paper investigates the role of immutable backup technologies in improving ransomware resilience and disaster recovery capabilities within modern data center environments. Traditional backup infrastructures may be vulnerable to ransomware attacks, unauthorized deletion, data modification, and compromised administrative credentials. These threats can undermine backup reliability and delay the restoration of critical systems. The study proposes a ransomware-resilient backup architecture that integrates immutable storage, Write Once Read Many (WORM) mechanisms, access controls, backup isolation, and integrity verification. It also outlines a controlled experimental methodology for comparing conventional and immutable backup systems. The proposed evaluation focuses on recovery time objectives (RTO), recovery point objectives (RPO), backup integrity, restoration reliability, and storage overhead. The research explores how protected retention policies and independent administrative controls can reduce the risk of backup tampering and support reliable disaster recovery. The paper contributes a conceptual framework and evaluation methodology for organizations seeking to strengthen data center backup security against ransomware-related threats. Keywords: Immutable Backup, Ransomware Resilience, Data Center Security, Disaster Recovery, Cybersecurity, RPO, RTO, Backup Integrity.
