Clinical efficacy and safety of Vepripak® (fluralaner) for demodicosis, otodectosis, and flea allergy dermatitis in dog

Relevance. Demodicosis and otodectosis are among the most common parasitic dermatoses in dogs, while flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) remains the leading cause of chronic pruritus. The introduction of systemic acaricidal drugs based on isoxazolines has fundamentally changed the therapeutic approach: a single oral dose provides a convenient and effective alternative to multiple topical treatments, thereby improving owner compliance. Objective. To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy and tolerability of Vepripak® in the treatment of demodicosis, otodectosis, and FAD in dogs. Materials and Methods. A total of 13 consecutive clinical cases were analyzed (December 2025 – April 2026), including demodicosis (n=8), otodectic mange (n=4), and flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) (n=1). The animals ranged in age from 4 months to 11 years, with body weights between 2.0 and 35.0 kg. The diagnosis was confirmed via deep skin scrapings, microscopic examination of ear canal debris, otoscopy, cytology, and Wood’s lamp examination. Vepripak® was administered orally as a single dose of 25.0–56.3 mg of fluralaner per kg of body weight. Follow-up examinations were performed 20–57 days post-treatment. Results. At the first follow-up examination, no live mites were detected in 11 out of 12 dogs with acariasis. In one dog with demodicosis, isolated D. canis nymphs persisted; however, no mites were found during the follow-up visit on day 56. With the use of the dietary supplement (BAD), the pruritus intensity decreased from 7 to 2 points on the PVAS scale by day 39, with complete resolution of alopecia by day 72. No adverse events were observed during the administration of Vepripak®. Conclusion. A single oral dose of Vepripa® provided parasitological and clinical remission in all dogs with demodicosis and otodectosis within 20 to 57 days. The drug was well-tolerated, including in patients with chronic comorbidities.
