Cogeneration plant with a low-temperature piston engine

This paper studies the energy concert and economic feasibility of a moderate cogeneration system based on a low-temperature piston engine (LDP), with a particular focus on its potential use in decentralized rural areas. A thermodynamic model implemented in MATLAB is used to estimate system behavior, including electricity production, heat recovery, overall efficiency, and key economic indicators. The results suggest that the system is capable of generating approximately 195,000 kWh of electricity per year, while an additional 292,500 kWh of thermal energy may be recovered and used for practical applications. In this way, the total useful energy output is estimated to reach about 487,500 kWh annually. However, these values depend on the assumed operating conditions and the extent to which the recovered heat can be effectively utilized. From an economic standpoint, the combined use of electrical and thermal energy appears to play a significant role in reducing the overall cost of energy. Under the conditions considered in this study, the effective energy cost is estimated at around 0.072 €/kWh, with a payback period of approximately 3.8 years. It should be said that the given data may diverge reliant to issues such as petroleum fee, system procedure, and request outlines. Overall, the findings indicate that LDP-based CHP systems could represent a practical and potentially cost-effective solution for improving energy supply in rural and decentralized settings, particularly where both electrical and thermal demands are present.
