The Lost Tomb of the Eastern Frontier Commander: A New Discovery at Tell El-Maskhuta/Rod Eskander (Part One)

A newly discovered tomb at Tell el-Maskhuta/Rod Eskander in the Wadi Tumilat region potentially sheds light on Egypt’s military presence during the late New Kingdom. This preliminary report presents findings related to the architecture, burial patterns, and historical implications of a mudbrick tomb possibly belonging to a military commander who served during the Ramesside Period (late 19 th –20 th Dynasty). The tomb, located northwest of the known Saite fortress at Tell el-Maskhuta, adds crucial data to the understanding of Egyptian border defence and administrative systems in the Wadi Tumilat region.
