Toroidal Field Stabilization in a Rectangular Torus
I discovered that the stability in a rectangular cross-section—where the poloidal mode does not exist—differs significantly from that in a circular cross-section, where stability is strongly dependent on the poloidal mode. Notably, my findings demonstrate that plasma in a rectangular torus remains stable within a moderate toroidal field. This is a highly significant finding, as it suggests that stable plasma in a rectangular torus could potentially reach fusion conditions using a moderate toroidal field established by a standard copper coil.
