Picture Exchange Communication System dan Teknik Shaping untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Komunikasi Verbal Siswa dengan Autism Spectrum Disorder

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of providing Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Shaping interventions on single cases of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with verbal communication barriers. This research design uses the single case experimental design method. This research is a single case study carried out by providing intervention to the subject (initials KA; 8 years old) with ASD children with the most prominent barriers to verbal communication, such as: not being able to communicate their own desires clearly, not being able to communicate in two directions, and communicate more about what is desired non-verbally (by pointing or directly taking the desired item). Data collection in this research used observation methods, interviews and secondary data such as subject learning assignment sheets. This research data analysis uses quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods. After participating in 10 meetings of the PECS and Shaping intervention program specifically designed to improve the verbal communication skills of children with ASD, KA showed positive changes in the development of his verbal communication.
