Exercise therapy for temporomandibular disorders

OBJECTIVES: This is a protocol for a Cochrane review (intervention). The objectives are as follows: Primary objective To assess the effects of exercise therapy on pain intensity, jaw function/disability, and health-related quality of life in adults with temporomandibular disorders, compared with no treatment, placebo, or other non-exercise conservative interventions. Secondary objectives To assess the effects of exercise therapy on mandibular mobility and adverse events. Additionally, to explore potential heterogeneity in treatment effects by investigating whether outcomes differ according to temporomandibular disorder subtype (e.g. myogenous, arthrogenous, or mixed).
