Longer duration of MOUD during and after pregnancy lowers OD and death risk: Study
The longer that pregnant women with opioid use disorder (OUD) remain on medication for OUD (MOUD), the lower their risk of death and overdose during the first postpartum year, researchers have found. In “Duration of Medication Use for Opioid Use Disorder and Risk of Postpartum Overdose and Death,” published October 1 in JAMA Network Open , researchers from Vanderbilt University and Emory University found that 9,360 pregnancies among 7,776 individuals found that those with a greater days' supply of MOUD were less likely to have nonfatal overdose and death. The study's lead author is Ahra Kim, MPH.
