ChatGPT Personal Agent: User-Controlled Persistent Memory and Cross-Device Continuity
The proposal introduces a dedicated memory space in which users explicitly decide what information is stored, updated, retained, or deleted. It also outlines an account-linked personal agent that can access authorized memory across supported devices, helping users resume their work without unnecessarily reconstructing previously preserved context. The document discusses the proposed architecture, user experience, privacy and security considerations, design principles, potential applications, and a phased implementation roadmap. This proposal is submitted for consideration as a potential future enhancement to ChatGPT. It is an independent proposal and does not represent an existing or announced OpenAI feature, nor does it imply endorsement or acceptance by OpenAI.
