ADSORPTION OF BISPHENSOL A FROM CONTAMINATED WATER USING HYROXYETHYL CELLULOSE
Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine-disrupting compound prevalent in plastics and epoxy resins, has become a pollutant of concern due to its frequent detection in aquatic systems, driving demand for sustainable removal technologies. This study evaluated the adsorptive removal of BPA from aqueous solution using hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), a biodegradable cellulose-based adsorbent. Batch experiments assessed the effects of adsorbent dosage, contact time, and solution pH, with residual concentrations quantified by UV–Visible spectrophotometry. Increasing HEC dosage from 0.4 to 1.0 g lowered the equilibrium BPA concentration from 0.65 to 0.21 mg/L. The linearized Langmuir isotherm fitted the data well (R² ≈ 0.998), indicating monolayer adsorption. Removal rose from 20% at 15 min to 80% at 45 min, plateauing thereafter, while maximum capacity occurred at pH 4. These findings highlight HEC's potential as a bio-based adsorbent, though further validation, material characterization, and testing under real wastewater conditions are recommended
