Exploration d’un texte littéraire dans l’enseignement du FLE : dossier pédagogique sur « La voix de Robert Desnos »

This educational guide presents a pedagogical project focused on teaching modern poetry in French as a Foreign Language (FFL). It argues that, although modern poetry often seems obscure because it abandons the purely communicative function of language, it can actually become a valuable tool for developing learners’ critical awareness, creativity, and interpretive skills. The author opposes the current trend of undervaluing literature, asserting that literary study remains essential in an age dominated by AI and communication-oriented methods. Rather than avoiding the difficulties of modern poetry – its commonly assumed lack of logical structure, paradoxical imagery, and ambiguous meanings – teachers should transform these challenges into opportunities for discussion and discovery. The proposed activities aim to help both teachers and learners overcome the misconception that modern poetry is inaccessible. A poem by Robert Desnos (“La voix de Robert Desnos” / The Voice of Robert Desnos) is used as a practical example, encouraging playful yet structured interpretation through guided questions and inductive reasoning. The project targets mainly young adult learners (B1 level or higher) and can be used in university or international programs for undergraduates. The dossier includes a glossary for advanced terminology and was developed collaboratively with students at Charles University (Czech Republic, Prague) between 2023 and 2026.
