ViaSpania 1.0.0. User Manual. English.

ViaSpania 1.0.0 User Manual This guide takes users from their first project through to interpreting and communicating results. Each topic will later be developed as a separate section, with step-by-step instructions and simple examples. Each chapter first explains what a feature is for, then how to use it and, where useful, how to interpret the result and understand its limitations. Button names are written as they appear in ViaSpania; technical terms are explained the first time they appear. ViaSpania is a desktop application for exploring terrain and studying how its features affect movement and visibility. It can use downloaded maps and elevation models, as well as local data. With ViaSpania, you can calculate routes between places, compare different travel modes, study connections between several points and explore areas reachable from a starting point. You can also analyse which parts of the terrain are visible from one or more points, view contour lines and visualise the terrain in 3D. Each analysis answers a different question. For example, a route identifies the path with the lowest cost according to the selected profile, while an isochrone shows how far you could travel within specified time or cost intervals. Results depend on the elevation model, the points and the conditions you have set. Calculations run on your computer. An internet connection is needed to view online maps, search for places or download elevation models. A background map helps you orient yourself, while the elevation model provides the elevation data used in calculations. ViaSpania helps you explore and compare scenarios. A calculated route is an estimate based on the data and parameters you selected.
