Early Distraction in Neonates With a Bioresorbable Plate for Bilateral Vocal Fold Immobility
We describe a novel surgical technique in two neonates with idiopathic bilateral vocal fold immobility (BVFI) using early posterior cricoid distraction with placement of a poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) bioresorbable plate to improve the glottic aperture. Both patients experienced complete resolution of stridor and achieved full oral feeding within 2 weeks, avoiding the need for tracheostomy or gastrostomy tube placement.
