Violência lenta e saúde mental: efeitos da Usina Hidrelétrica de Estreito no assentamento Baixão em Babaçulândia - TO

The construction of the Estreito Hydroelectric Plant in Maranhão left enormous liabilities in the states of Maranhão and Tocantins; among those affected are the residents of São José Island, who were relocated to the Baixão settlement in the municipality of Babaçulândia/TO. The aim is to analyze whether the extraordinary violence of forced displacement persists as slow violence in the daily lives of those affected and its effects on mental health. For this purpose, an analysis of the social support and mental health conditions of 13 residents was conducted, and four of them were interviewed. The results followed the normative standards of the tests used, and the interviews were processed using WebQDA software with content analysis parameters. The results indicate a high level of emotional suffering resulting from multiple state violences, evident in the public authorities' neglect in addressing issues present from the outset, such as lack of drinking water, access to the river, and infrastructure for production and Changes in lifestyle. It is concluded that the dam stabilizes as practices of slow, everyday violence that persist over time and space, significantly altering the living conditions of the riverside communities.
