PERBANDINGAN KARAKTERISTIK WARNA EKSTRAK DAUN MANGGA (Mangifera indica L.) DAN PEWARNA SINTETIS INDIGOSOL PADA KAIN BATIK JAMBI

The use of mango leaves (Mangifera indica L.) as a natural dye for batik fabric has the potential to be an alternative for enriching batik color variations. This study aimed to describe the differences in color characteristics of batik fabric produced from mango leaf extract compared to synthetic indigosol dye. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach and was carried out at Rumah Batik Siti Hajir in Jambi City. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The extraction was done by soaking 500 g of mango leaves in 1 L of water and 1 L of 96% ethanol for seven days. The two extracts were then combined before being applied to mori fabric with batik patterns. Mango leaf extract fabric was fixed with lime or tunjung, while indigosol fabric used HCl fixation. The color characteristics were observed visually based on intensity, brightness, sharpness, and motif clarity, and color identification was carried out using the Color Name AR app. Interviews were conducted with four batik artisans and four batik-loving consumers. The results showed that 96% ethanol extract looked more concentrated compared to the water extract before they were combined. On the fabric, tunjung fixation produced a clearer and sharper color compared to lime, while indigosol showed a more intense and sharp color compared to natural dyes. Some respondents preferred the mango leaf dyeing result with tunjung because it looked softer and more natural. The research results were compiled into a flipbook that included the stages of extraction, dyeing, fixation, and bleaching of batik cloth.
