Application of Emerging Technologies for Effective Job Performance by Business Educators in Rivers State Universities

The study investigated application of emerging technologies for effective job performance by Business Educators in Rivers State Universities. The study was carried out in Rivers State. Three specific objectives were posed, three research questions were answered and three null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted sequential exploratory mixed design. The population of the study was 35 Business Educators from Rivers State University and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. Based on the small population of the study, the entire population was used for the study. An interview schedule titled “Application of Emerging Technologies for Effective Job Performance” was used as instrument for data collection, three experts validated the instrument. Interrater-reliability method was adopted to test the reliability of the instrument, Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC) statistics was used to correlate the ratings of the two raters. The PPMC coefficient obtained was 0.74 which indicates that the instrument is reliable. Thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data while for the quantitative phase, Mean and Standard Deviation statistics was used to answer the research questions posed and t-test statistical tool was used in testing the hypotheses. Findings from the study revealed that Business Educators in Rivers State Universities moderately apply Artificial Intelligence, highly internet of things while block chain is not applied. Based on the findings the researcher recommended among others, that University management should provide avenues for professional development of Business Educators to update and integrate artificial intelligence into the curriculum of Business Education programme and Government should provide funds should be provided for Business Educators to attend seminars in institution of learning where block chain is applied to learn about the block chain in education.
