The state of circadian rhythm studies in Türkiye: a bibliometric study

This bibliometric study investigates the circadian rhythm literature originating from Türkiye, analyzing publications retrieved from the Scopus database up to 2024 with respect to their key characteristics. Analysis was conducted using VOSviewer (version 1.6.16) to assess publication trends, keyword co-occurrence patterns, and co-authorship networks. Records were retrieved from Scopus using a TITLE-ABS-KEY search combining the terms “circadian” AND “rhythm”, with affiliation country restricted to Türkiye and publication year restricted to before 2025. The analysis revealed that 1323 publications had been published on the relevant topic. The highest number of publications was recorded in 2024 (n = 133). Chronobiology International was the leading journal (n = 85), Zengil H. the most productive author (n = 29), and Gazi University the leading institution (n = 74). Original research articles predominated (n = 1,039), and medicine was the leading research area (n = 1,049). TÜBİTAK supported 37 publications. The most frequent keywords were “circadian rhythm” (n = 213), “melatonin” (n = 98), “hypertension” (n = 89), “chronotype” (n = 64), and “sleep” (n = 38). Overall, circadian rhythm publication activity in Türkiye has increased in recent years, although total research output remains limited.
