Smart Cities for Sustainable Urban Development Tejashri Prashant Jadhav

A smart city is defined as a city that employs communication and information technologies to enhance the entire process of governance, including making it more effective, public access to data, and enhancing the quality of government services alongside the well-being of citizens. Rapid population growth creates problems for cities associated with urban transport, air pollution, energy inefficiency, water scarcity, waste disposal issues, and burden on urban infrastructure. Smart city solutions include using new technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Geographic Information System (GIS), 5G, and intelligent sensors, for efficient resource management. Smart city technologies help monitor different aspects in real time and make intelligent decisions in the areas of transport, health, energy supply, waste management, and public safety. In India, the Smart Cities Mission has made cities implement several technology-based initiatives for sustainable development and citizen engagement. In this research paper, the concept, design, technologies, applications, advantages, problems and perspectives of smart cities are examined, taking into account their applications in India.
