Two new species of Callidosomatinae Southcott, 1961 (Trombidiformes: Erythraeidae) from the Carajás region, eastern Brazilian Amazon

The diversity of Callidosomatinae in the Neotropical region remains poorly known, particularly in megadiverse ecosystems such as the Amazon. In this study, two new species of Callidosomatinae, belonging to the genera Callidosoma and Iguatonia, are described based on specimens collected in areas under intense mining activity in the Serra Norte sector, Carajás National Forest, Pará State, eastern Brazilian Amazon. Both species are described based on the larval stage and diagnosed by unique combinations of morphological characters. These records represent the first occurrences of Callidosoma and Iguatonia in Amazonian ecosystems, expanding the known geographic and ecological distribution of Callidosomatinae in South America. Although a broader distribution is expected for these species, part of their known localities has already been suppressed by iron‑ore extraction even before their formal description.
