Sustainable Development and Environmental Impact: The Role of AI in Circular Economy in the Construction Industry Era 6.0

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly studied in construction, but its integration with the Circular Economy (CE) remains insufficiently explored. This study maps AI-related construction research and examines its implications for CE within the context of Industry 6.0. A bibliometric analysis of Scopus publications from 2014 to 2024 was conducted using Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer to analyze publication trends, keyword co-occurrence, country contributions, and author productivity. Artificial Intelligence was the dominant keyword, with 291 occurrences, followed by Construction Industry (129), Machine Learning (68), and Sustainable Development (52). China contributed the most publications, while research activity increased substantially after 2020. The findings highlight AI’s potential to support material prediction, waste reduction, material tracking, reuse, and recycling. However, stronger integration of AI research with measurable CE outcomes remains necessary. Future studies should evaluate AI-enabled circular construction using indicators of material efficiency, waste prevention, and resource recovery.
