From e-Business to intelligent digital systems: the next chapter for Information Systems & e-Business Management Journal

From e-Business to intelligent digital systemsScientific journals are, in many respects, a reflection of the disciplines they serve. As research communities evolve, the questions they ask, the phenomena they investigate, and the methods they employ change over time. The history of Information Systems and e-Business Management (ISeB) illustrates this changing research community particularly well.Since its establishment more than two decades ago, the journal has accompanied a period of extraordinary transformation in the Information Systems (IS) discipline, witnessing the emergence of new technologies, new organisational challenges, and new research frontiers while continuously providing a forum for rigorous and relevant scholarly debate. When ISeB was founded, the expression e-business captured one of the defining technological and managerial developments of that time. The rapid diffusion of the Internet, enterprise systems, and electronic commerce was fundamentally reshaping how organizations created value, coordinated activities, and interacted with customers, suppliers, and business partners (Amit and Zott 2001;Porter 2001).Information Systems scholars sought to explain how digital technologies could become strategic organisational capabilities (Bharadwaj 2000), enable organisational agility through digital options (Sambamurthy et al. 2003), and support new forms of business innovation. It was in this context that ISeB established its identity as a journal dedicated S. Abstract
