The Effect of Warm Acupuncture Combined With Anti-Infective Therapy on Postoperative Recovery in Patients Undergoing Prostate Resection
Introduction The present work was designed to examine the impact of warm needle acupuncture administered alongside anti-infective agents on the postsurgical recuperation of individuals with benign prostatic hyperplasia who had undergone transurethral plasma kinetic prostatectomy (TUPKP). Methods Sixty-eight male patients were randomly divided into a control group (CON, short-term anti-infective therapy ≤48 h) and an observation group (OBS, CON plus warm acupuncture daily for 14 days), 34 each. Perioperative indicators, such as urodynamics (maximum urinary flow rate [Qmax], average urinary flow rate [Qave], residual urine volume [RUV]), serum markers (C-reactive protein [CRP], prostate-specific antigen [PSA], vascular endothelial growth factor [VEGF], transforming growth factor beta 1 [TGF-β1], connective tissue growth factor [CTGF], fibronectin 1 [FN1]), sex hormones (estradiol [E2], testosterone (T), prolactin [PRL], luteinizing hormone [LH]), International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5), quality of life (QOL), efficacy, and adverse reactions, were compared. Results The OBS group exhibited significantly reduced durations of catheterization, bladder irrigation completion, and postoperative hospitalization; increased urine output; reduced urinary retention; and incontinence frequency ( P < 0.05). Qmax and Qave increased, and RUV decreased ( P < 0.05). Serum CRP, PSA, VEGF, TGF-β1, CTGF, and FN1 were lower ( P < 0.05). At 1 month, T increased, while E2, LH, and PRL decreased ( P < 0.05). IPSS and QOL scores were lower, and IIEF-5 was higher ( P < 0.05). The overall efficacy rate was numerically higher in the OBS group than in the CON group (91.18% vs. 79.41%), but the difference was not statistically significant ( P > 0.05). Adverse reaction rates showed no difference (23.53% vs. 11.76%, P > 0.05). Conclusion Warm needling combined with anti-infection therapy can significantly promote short-term postoperative recovery in patients undergoing TUPKP, improve urodynamic parameters, and reduce inflammatory responses and is also associated with beneficial changes in sex hormone levels, demonstrating good clinical application value. Its long-term efficacy requires further follow-up observation.
