Introduction to the Festschrift for Guy Christopher Cox

This Festschrift in honour of Guy Cox is to celebrate his many contributions and achievements to the field of microscopy, covering both optical and electron microscopy, and including computer processing of microscope images.Guy read botany at Exeter College, University of Oxford, graduating in 1964.His DPhil (awarded in 1971) was also from Oxford, with a thesis entitled Ultrastructure of cells with thickened primary walls, supervised by Barrie Juniper, and followed by postdoctoral research for a year. 1 This work was significant because the group was the first to prepare fully vacuolated plant cells for electron microscopy. 2 After further postdoctoral research for 2.5 years at University of Leeds, he moved to Australia in 1975, to the Electron Microscope Unit (EMU) at the University of Sydney, where he remained
