NOSE-OE: A molecular signaling map of the olfactory epithelium

The olfactory epithelium (OE) is a dynamic and complex sensory tissue in which continuous regeneration, neuronal differentiation, and tissue maintenance depend on coordinated molecular and cellular signaling. We developed NOSE-OE (Network of Signaling Events in the Olfactory Epithelium), an open-access knowledge resource that integrates mechanistic evidence from more than 300 publications into a standardized, computer-readable signaling network. NOSE-OE comprises over 500 molecular elements and 1,000 curated interactions and is implemented within the MINERVA platform for interactive exploration and network analysis. By connecting fragmented experimental evidence within a unified molecular framework, NOSE-OE enables the systematic investigation of signaling processes governing OE homeostasis and responses to perturbation. The resource provides a foundation for hypothesis generation and systems-level investigation of olfactory epithelial biology across physiological and disease contexts.
