Thermal Comfort Properties of Plated Single Jersey Fabrics Knitted with Different Fibers

It is well established that fiber type and fabric structure are key factors of thermo-physiological comfort. In this study, single-layer, double-faced (plated) knitted fabrics were engineered to enhance thermal comfort by promoting rapid moisture transfer, making them especially suitable for garments used during intensive activities and sports. To achieve this, ten plated fabric samples were knitted using four different fiber materials under identical machine settings. We measured air permeability, water vapor permeability, moisture transfer capacity, thermal resistance, weight, thickness, and stitch density according to relevant standards. The collected data were analysed through statistical and comparative methods. The results revealed that all samples generally exhibited high air and relative water vapor permeability, adequate thermal resistance, and effective moisture management. Moreover, fabrics with different yarns on the inner and outer surfaces showed significantly improved one‑way moisture transport performance.

Abstract

The collected data were analysed through statistical and comparative methods. The results revealed that all samples generally exhibited high air and relative water vapor permeability, adequate thermal resistance, and effective moisture management. Moreover, fabrics with different yarns on the inner and outer surfaces showed significantly improved one‑way moisture transport performance.
