"THE LINGUOPRAGMATIC ROLE OF ONOMATOPOEIC UNITS IN SHAPING ADDRESSER–ADDRESSEE RELATIONSHIPS: EVIDENCE FROM ENGLISH AND UZBEK"
Abstract: This article examines the linguopragmatic role of onomatopoeic units in shaping addresser–addressee relationships in English and Uzbek from a contrastive perspective. It focuses on the ways in which onomatopoeic units function in dialogic speech to express communicative relationships between speakers and listeners, enhance emotional and expressive impact, attract the interlocutor’s attention, and achieve specific communicative goals. The study also explores the context-dependent meanings and pragmatic functions of these units in communicative situations, identifying similarities and differences between their use in English and Uzbek. The findings aim to highlight the significance of onomatopoeic units not only as linguistic means of imitating sounds and representing events but also as pragmatic resources for establishing interpersonal relationships and enhancing communicative effectiveness.
