Preparing climate informed counselor educators: advocacy identity development in doctoral training
Advocacy is central to professional counseling identity and a core developmental outcome of doctoral training in counselor education. As climate change reshapes the contexts of practice, counselor educators must prepare students for climate-informed advocacy. This manuscript positions the ACES Climate Change and Environmental Justice Competencies as an operational framework for advocacy identity development. Through a narrative case mapped across CACREP domains, we illustrate implications for program design, mentorship, research, and leadership preparation.
