Moral Reflexes and Their Heavy Implications
Abstract In the Twin Cities, as this contribution details, moral reflexes ask a series of unspoken questions while their heavy implications foment in the background. These questions challenge the legitimacy of the status quo and imply that neighbors are overwhelmed by a moral crisis that submits to their resistance only incompletely. These questions are difficult to pose aloud because they bear heavy utopian implications, which might distract from the immediacy of the ongoing crisis. Nonetheless, they are present on patrol, at protests, at coffee and at pizza, and at memorials; they lie between conversations strategic and idle, severe and playful: What do our ideals demand?
