Afternoon, sunset, or dawn? Opportunities and pathways for reshaping global Christianity in “the West” and “the rest”

The extraordinary shift in the center of gravity of global Christianity is a celebrated phenomenon in the development and progress of global Christianity. This historical and geographical reality recognizes the inevitable influence of the global South in reshaping the knowledge, understanding and practice of Christian mission. It also provides fertile ground for this presentation’s exploration of the mutuality and tension, complementarity and difference characteristic of the relationship between a strained Western hegemony and an ascendant missionary movement in the Two-Thirds World and beyond.

Abstract

The extraordinary shift in the center of gravity of global Christianity is a celebrated phenomenon in the development and progress of global Christianity. This historical and geographical reality recognizes the inevitable influence of the global South in reshaping the knowledge, understanding and practice of Christian mission. It also provides fertile ground for this presentation’s exploration of the mutuality and tension, complementarity and difference characteristic of the relationship between a strained Western hegemony and an ascendant missionary movement in the Two-Thirds World and beyond.
