Campus Companion: A Role-Based Smart Campus Management and Engagement Platform

Educational institutions rely on fragmented channels such as notice boards, messaging groups, email, and spreadsheets for communication and scheduling, which can lead to missed notices, timetable clashes, and untracked grievances. This paper presents Campus Companion, a role-based web platform that integrates targeted notices with read tracking, conflict-aware timetable management, grievance redressal, campus events, and a campus directory for students, faculty, timetable committees, and administrators. The system is implemented using Laravel 12, Livewire 3 (Volt), Alpine.js, Tailwind CSS v4, Vite, and Eloquent ORM, with role middleware, audience-scoped queries, server-side validation, and relational constraints, and is deployed on Render with a Neon serverless PostgreSQL database. Functional evaluation on the deployed application covered 43 test cases spanning six timetable-conflict scenarios, role-based access control across four roles, and notice visibility across three audience scopes; all cases passed. Page-level evaluation using Lighthouse reported median performance scores between 87 and 92, and a System Usability Scale study with 24 participants yielded a mean score of 84.2. Results indicate that consolidating campus communication, scheduling, and grievance handling into a single role-aware platform is feasible and usable.
