Trust in the police among low-income urban residents in Bangladesh: perceived level and associated factors

The study aimed to assess the trust level in police among low-income urbanites in Bangladesh and explore the factors influencing the trust in police. A cross-sectional study design and quantitative approach were followed through face-to-face surveys to gather data from 18-year-old and above aged low-income-earning urban inhabitants. A total of 587 responses were collected using a multistage sampling technique from four different metropolitan cities in Bangladesh. The low-income urbanites had a relatively low level of trust in the police in Bangladesh. Factors like trust in neighborhoods, satisfaction with the operation of the government’s law and order, believing positive media reports on police, and personal safety awareness were significantly positively correlated with trust in police.
