Aftermath
Abstract Parallels exist between the author's grief at losing loved ones and the experience of his city being occupied by federal immigration enforcement officers for several winter months. The long aftermath of bereavement may involve repressed emotions and harmful long-term repercussions unless the mourner (or collectively traumatized community) engages meaningfully with the process of recovery.
