Preformulation Development and Evaluation of a Herbal Extract-Based Ointment for Wound Healing”

The present study aims to develop and evaluate a herbal wound healing ointment using medicinal plant extracts. Preformulation studies were performed to assess the compatibility and physicochemical properties of the ingredients. The prepared ointment was evaluated for parameters such as appearance, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, viscosity, extrudability, stability, and skin irritation. The formulation showed satisfactory physical characteristics and good stability, indicating its suitability as a topical wound care preparation. The study suggests that the herbal ointment has potential as a safe and effective alternative for wound healing, although further pharmacological and clinical studies are needed to confirm its efficacy. Results: The herbal extracts had appropriate physical and chemical properties for the ointment preparation. The ointment had an acceptable appearance, smoothness, homogeneity, consistency, and spreadability. It can be said from the pH value of the f”rmul’ that there Is no chance of skin irritation because the pH was within the acceptable range. There was stability of the formula, as there was no change In its color, odor, consistency, and phase separation. Also, Evaluation of the formulation was carried out by measuring parameters such as pH and physical stability. centrifugation, spreadability, and extrudability, and all of them were satisfactory. Conclusions: The present study successfully developed and evaluated Polyherbal ointment formulations (F1 and F2) for wound healing. Both formulation’s showed satisfactory physicochemical properties, Including acceptable pH, physical stability, spreadability, viscosity, and extrudability, with no phase separation observed during the study. The wound-healing evaluation demonstrated promising therapeutic potential of the formulations. Overall, the developed Polyherbal ointments may be considered suitable topical preparations for wound management; however, further clinical studies are required to confirm their safety and efficacy.
