Assesment of various properties of concrete and environmental impact of utilizing waste marble dust in concrete: A review

Waste marble dust is generated during the process of preparing marble for use in flooring or decorative applications. Each year, a large amount of marble waste is produced by the construction industry, which leads to numerous environmental and health issues when it is disposed of improperly. Therefore, researchers have discovered an effective solution to address these problems by using waste marble dust as a substitute for fine aggregates in concrete. This approach not only benefits the environment but also reduces the need for soil mining.Researchers have conducted experiments to evaluate the mechanical and durability properties of concrete when fine aggregates are replaced with marble dust at various levels, ranging from 0% to 100%.In these experiments, several properties of the concrete were tested, including compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, workability, modulus of elasticity, ultrasonic pulse velocity, porosity, SEM, XRD, water absorption, and sorpitivity.By comparing the results with reference concrete (which contains 0% waste marble dust), it was determined whether waste marble dust is a viable alternative to fine aggregates. After analyzing the test results and discussion, it was concluded that the utilization of waste marble dust as a partial replacement for fine aggregates improves some of the properties of concrete and can be effectively used as a construction material.
