Monograph 33: Fluid-Dynamic Shear Stress and Non-Linear Bioluminescent Signal Processing in Coastal Dinoflagellate Blooms
This field study explores the biomechanical and optical signaling mechanisms of coastal dinoflagellate populations (Lingulodinium polyedra) during red tide events along the Southern California coastline (Dana Point vector). The manuscript provides a quantitative analysis of shear-stress-induced luciferin-luciferase enzymatic reactions, modeling wave-action disturbance as a fluid-dynamic mechanical trigger for coherent photon emission. Lessons drawn from these natural optical networks are synthesized into conceptual frameworks for low-energy, motion-activated display architectures and biological sensor systems.
