Functionalization of rGO Prepared by Water‐Wet Ball Milling: Interaction With Schiff Base Ligands and Formation of Hybrid Nanomaterials

ABSTRACT In this study, a partially reduced graphene oxide (prGO) sheet was prepared from natural coal by ball milling. Schiff bases were prepared from aromatic aldehydes and furfuralamine to modify the surface of the reduced GR sheet using these bases and to study the interaction between them. The prepared organic compounds were characterized using infrared (FT‐IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H NMR), and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance ( 13 C NMR). The partially reduced GR sheet was also prepared by ball milling coal moistened with drops of deionized water. It was used to prepare nanocomposites by chemical sublimation with the prepared Schiff bases in the presence of water. The prepared nanocomposites were characterized by spectroscopic methods such as infrared (FT‐IR), x‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and surface area.
