Effect of continuous direct current on sweating and quality of life in women with primary palmar hyperhidrosis: a randomized controlled trial
Primary hyperhidrosis is characterized by excessive sweating beyond thermoregulatory needs, significantly impacting quality of life. To evaluate the effects of continuous direct current on sweating and quality of life in women with primary palmar hyperhidrosis. A double-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted with 60 female participants allocated into a sham group (TENS) and an intervention group (galvanic current). Participants underwent 10 treatment sessions. Sweating was assessed using the starch–iodine test, treatment diaries, and remission time. Quality of life was evaluated using a validated questionnaire. The local ethics committee approved all procedures under number 1.310.220 and registered the clinical trial under number RBR-45KMBP. The galvanic current group demonstrated earlier cessation of sweating ( p < 0.001), significant improvement in quality of life ( p < 0.001), and prolonged symptom remission compared to the sham group. Continuous direct current is an effective, noninvasive intervention for reducing sweating and improving quality of life in primary hyperhidrosis.
