Sebaceous Carcinoma in England (2013–2022): A national cancer registry report on incidence, referral pathways, treatment and survival

We present the national population-level analysis of sebaceous carcinoma (SC) in England, reporting incidence trends, referral pathways, treatment patterns, and survival between 2013 and 2022 using the National Disease Registration Service's Get Data Out dataset. SC incidence remained stable over the decade, surgery was the predominant treatment, and only one fifth of cases were identified through the urgent suspected cancer pathway. Five-year overall and net survival were lower than those reported for more common cancers, underscoring the need to improve early recognition, referral pathways, and routine MMR testing for this rare malignancy.

Abstract

SC incidence remained stable over the decade, surgery was the predominant treatment, and only one fifth of cases were identified through the urgent suspected cancer pathway.
