Model Construction of Wave Energy Array Limiting System and Analysis of Power Generation Capacity in Real Sea Conditions

Wave energy converter (WEC) arrayization is a crucial direction for the large-scale utilization of wave energy. However, under real sea states, irregular waves, displacement overruns under severe motion conditions, and insufficient adaptability of fixed damping control pose difficulties for power generation capacity assessment. In this paper, a motion-limiting system model is established to address the severe motion of floating bodies under extreme conditions. A state-space model is employed to replace the numerical integration method for calculating the convolution term in the time-domain motion equation. Combined with the distribution of real sea state data, a variable parameter control method based on latch control is proposed using the optimal limiting damping parameters. The power generation matrices and energy capture widths under different sea states in an actual sea area in 2022 are calculated, and the annual power generation under regular and irregular wave assumptions is computed. The results show that, compared with linear control, the average power of Floating Body 1 under variable parameter control increases from 18.116 kW to 20.092 kW, and that of Floating Body 2 increases from 35.146 kW to 45.140 kW. These results provide a quantitative basis for the engineering design and control strategy selection of WEC arrays in actual sea areas.
