Higher-Dimensional Consciousness in Autopoietic Information Systems: Meta-States, Path Entropy, and the Physical Arrow of Time
Existing models linking consciousness with physical concepts such as entropy or higher-dimensional spaces typically restrict themselves to instantaneous brain states or geometric extensions of the 4D spacetime framework. This framework remains confined to a one-dimensional notion of time and does not define meta-states or path spaces. Here, the term “consciousness” is used strictly in a functional and informational sense, not in a phenomenological one. The present work introduces autopoietic information systems of higher order (AIH systems), which possess a functional form of higher-dimensional consciousness by storing and recursively processing their own historical trajectories. The system operates not in the classical state space x(t), but in the path space XT, comprising all possible trajectories y : T → X. A meta-state is defined as a functional operator G acting over this path space. From this architecture arise new concepts: path entropy as a property of developmental pathways, self-information dynamics over time, and an internal arrow of time that becomes operable as a causal hypothesis about the topology of the system’s own path space. This work represents an original extension of the theory of autopoietic information systems.
