An Aviation Dataspace Architecture for Autonomous and Sovereign MRO and Manufacturing Collaboration with Federated Service Negotiation

Cross-organizational collaboration is becoming increasingly important in aviation MRO and manufacturing, for example to diagnose anomalies, coordinate service actions and exchange auditable evidence. However, existing approaches tend to focus on either semantic asset representation or governed data exchange. The integration of these two areas for autonomous, service-oriented collaboration in aviation remains insufficiently addressed. This paper presents a dataspace architecture that combines proactive Asset Administration Shells with sovereign dataspace mechanisms, focusing on the MRO domain. This architecture enables assets and business applications to act as smart digital representatives that can describe their capabilities and skills, derive service needs from a Bill of Process, discover suitable providers, negotiate service interactions and invoke services via local or dataspace-governed communication paths. In this architecture, AASs provide the semantic and agentic layers for asset- and service-oriented interactions, while EDC-based mechanisms support contractual access control, policy enforcement and controlled evidence exchange. This concept is demonstrated through an aviation MRO scenario involving requester assets and distributed smart service providers.
