State-Space Modeling and Controller Design of a High Efficiency Boost Converter Utilizing Leakage Inductance and Magnetic Clamp Coupling

This paper proposes a novel high efficiency, high step-up boost converter and its precise modeling technique, utilizing a magnetic clamp structure to suppress leakage inductance surges and efficiently recover energy. Under identical load conditions, the converter exhibits a unique mode transition based on a critical duty ratio (0.6–0.7), shifting dynamically between a first order DCM and a second order CCM. To analytically unify this non-linear behavior within a single framework, a unified (CCM based) state-space averaging(SSA) modeling technique introducing the inductor current conduction ratio(d₁ ) is proposed. By applying symmetrical winding conditions, the analytical complexity is simplified to only inductance(L) and coupling coefficient(k), ensuring practical design guidelines. A robust double loop controller is optimized and designed via MATLAB SISOTOOL to secure sufficient stability margins across all operating regions. The validity of the proposed model and controller is verified via PSIM simulations. Notably, the system achieves stable and seamless voltage tracking without control discontinuities or voltage overshoot, even during harsh transient states where the duty ratio passes through the critical threshold under a fixed load condition.
