The Influence Of Financial Technology On The Consumptive Behaviour Of Generation Z

The development of financial technology (fintech) has transformed the way individuals conduct financial transactions, particularly among Generation Z, a demographic group that actively adopts digital technologies. This study aims to analyse the effects of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of fintech on the consumptive behaviour of Generation Z. The research employed a quantitative approach with a causal associative design based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Primary data were collected through a questionnaire distributed to 51 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4 software. The results indicate that perceived ease of use does not have a significant effect on the consumptive behaviour of Generation Z, whereas perceived usefulness has a positive and significant effect. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.157) suggests that the two independent variables explain only 15.7% of the variance in consumptive behaviour. These findings indicate that the perceived benefits of fintech play a greater role than ease of use in explaining Generation Z's tendency toward consumptive behaviour. However, the results should be interpreted with caution given the model's limited explanatory power. This study highlights the importance of using fintech features wisely to ensure that the benefits obtained do not encourage excessive consumptive behaviour.
