Penguatan Budaya Membaca dan Numerik Bagi Anak Usia Sekolah di Wilayah KKN

Reading literacy and numeracy are fundamental skills that play an important role in supporting children's academic development and everyday life. However, observations conducted in the area of the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) showed that reading habits among school-age children had not yet been fully established, and some children still experienced difficulties in applying numeracy skills to everyday problems. This community service activity aimed to strengthen reading culture and numeracy skills among school-age children through creative, participatory, and enjoyable learning activities. The method employed a participatory approach consisting of preparation, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up stages. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and evaluation of participants' reading and numeracy skills. Reading activities included shared reading, reading assistance, storytelling, discussions, educational games, and quizzes. Meanwhile, numeracy activities were conducted through number games, arithmetic exercises, mathematics quizzes, and contextual problems related to everyday life. The results showed that children demonstrated better enthusiasm and participation when literacy and numeracy activities were presented in an interactive and enjoyable manner. The activities also provided different learning experiences and encouraged children to become more active in reading, understanding texts, performing calculations, and solving simple problems. Support from the village government, village staff, and community members was an important factor in the implementation and sustainability of the program. Therefore, strengthening reading culture and numeracy through participatory activities can serve as an effort to improve learning motivation and fundamental skills among school-age children and should be continued sustainably with the involvement of families and the community.
