Effects of 6- versus 12-week supervised multimodal exercise on health outcomes and adherence in women with obesity: A pilot study
Obesity can impair women’s musculoskeletal health, functional capacity, and physical activity. We conducted a pilot randomized trial of an individualized multimodal exercise program comparing six weeks of supervised plus six weeks of home-based exercise with 12 wk of supervision. Thirty-four women were randomized, and 21 completed (61.8% retention). During weeks 7–12, mean adherence was higher with continued supervision (86.4% vs. 55.9%; mean difference, 30.5 percentage points; 95% CI, 3.3–57.7; p = 0.030). Among completers, no serious intervention-related adverse events were identified, and reported complaints were mild. Some outcomes improved. These preliminary findings require cautious interpretation and confirmation in larger trials.
